Jared Winton: Software Engineer

Jared is a Software Engineer for VeRSI. His duties include design and development of eReasearch software solutions for the research community. He is initially working on the Shared Laboratory Instrumentation project at La Trobe University. This project will facilitate the organisation and execution of experiments at the Centre for Materials and Surface Science laboratory by providing a remote interface to the experimental equipment and data, in addition to communication with the technicians on-site in the laboratory.

Jared completed a Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Melbourne and has previously worked in the Physics Department at the University of Melbourne. Recently his work was as a Research Fellow helping to develop an international collaboration between the University and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland. As part of Jared's contribution to this collaboration he worked with the silicon detector group at PSI to aid in the development of the Pilatus 2 detector and its implementation in the 6M pixel detector system. His duties included detector construction and characterisation, and facilitating its use for protein crystallography experiments at the Swiss Light Source synchrotron. Also at the Physics Department, at Melbourne University, he was involved in the construction of particle detectors for both the ATLAS experiment at CERN and the BELLE experiment at KEK.
