VeRSI Data Store
VeRSI is able to assist eResearch projects by providing resources, knowledge and infrastructure to support suitable projects. As part of this VeRSI has half a petabyte of enterprise grade SAN storage. This is distributed equally across three campuses and connected over AARNet. To assist in the sharing of information between research groups we provide access in a number of ways including SRB & iRODS. Planning and implementation of connection to the national ARCS data fabric is underway.
VeRSI is providing virtual development servers to fast-track software development, as well as virtual pre-production servers.
VeRSI has built a Storage Portal to allow transfer of files without the user needing to understand the underlying transfer technology. The portal is being used by bioinformatics researchers at DPI for storage of animal genetics data, allowing them to share with colleagues internationally. Other users include the University of Melbourne Physics researchers who teach undergraduate students using images from the Synchrotron, as well as image storage for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.
eResearch is not about technology - it’s about making technology more usable by researchers who don’t want to be IT experts.
