Research Data Registry

Through funding from the Australian National Data Service (ANDS), the University of Melbourne is working to develop a research data registry which will profile and centralise records of research undertaken across the university.
Leading the project, Simon Porter is utilising Vitro, software initially developed by the University of Cornell, to gather and process the data into a central repository. This database will then link into Research Data Australia (RDA) – an ANDS initiative which promotes the visibility and reuse of research.
VeRSI is working with the University to develop a backend interface for metadata access. The interface allows RDA to harvest publicly accessible information from the Vitro triple store database and communicates it in a format which conforms to the ANDS registry standards. It acts as an ongoing communication layer between the University and RDA, allowing ANDS to query Vitro.
It is ultimately hoped that the registry will make data more discoverable by the University as well as the wider research community, reducing the barriers to nation-wide collaboration.
